Emporia takes credit as the home of Veterans Day, and rightfully so, although it is important to remember that November 11 is also Armistice Day.

But Emporia does make the most of the observance.  This year it includes a talk on the subject, “Emporia’s Company ‘L’  in WWI.”  The talk will be delivered twice, first on Wednesday, November 7th in the Sauder Alumni Center at 7:00 p.m.  It will be repeated the next day, Thursday, November 8th, at 3:00 p.m. in the commons area at the White Library.

Blair Tarr is the Museum Curator of the Kansas State Historical Society. He oversees the three-dimensional collections of the Society, but has special interests in the Civil War, Wichita-made Valentine diners, and Leavenworth's Abernathy Furniture. In the last few years he has also done a lot of cramming on The Great War. He is a past president of the Kansas Museums Association and the Civil War Round Tables of both Kansas City and Eastern Kansas. He is currently a board member of the Heritage League of Greater Kansas City.
