The Durand Group was founded by two Royal Engineers, Lt Col Philip Robinson and Lt Col Mike Watkins, following their experience removing several undetonated mines at Vimy Ridge. The group continues to be the premier engineering firm regarding for this kind of work, and with its charitable foundation has also undertaken extensive underground archeological exploration. You can visit their website by clicking here.
Andy Prada is a principal in the group. You can view his detailed address about combat engineering on the Western Front by clicking here for the You Tube video. As a former Combat Engineer myself, I found this presentation fascinating, both from the wartime perspective and the modern one. Even though my era was another war time, much of what was developed and employed in the First World War was still being taught in the training.
